OUR INTENTION:

We found a ruined house in the Old Town and turned it into a hotel. While restoring it, we fell in love with the house, its history and its people. We respected its character and peculiarities: the creeks of the wooden floor boards, the smell of the lime plaster, the roughness of its stones. We took care of the ageing mulberry tree in the garden and planted herbs, like the ones used by the housewives who once lived here. Our intention has been to make a small hotel for just a few, select guests. To provide them with as much attention and care as they desire. To have a variety of pillows for them to choose from, breakfast prepared with local, fresh products and bottles of carefully selected wines for them to enjoy in the evenings. The furniture, lighting, objects and carpets give every space a warm, familiar atmosphere. Luxury has been balanced with simplicity and modern design matched with old collectable items. We wish that our guests find themselves in a house they would like to be theirs: a home away from home. To enjoy every hour of their stay and start planning their next visit, before they even leave.”

THE HOTEL:

It is the first house you see when you enter the Old Town from the Gate of St. John. The locals call this gate the “Red Gate”, in memory of those who lost their lives defending it. A knight’s residence, with a small church dedicated to the Saint in its yard, once stood where the house currently stands. It was the residence of the knight in charge of the Gate's garrison. When the Knights handed Rhodes over to the Turks in 1522, Turkish and (much later) Greek families began living in the big house. They had different origins, opponent religions and bitter memories. However, they lived in harmony under the same roof and raised their children together. They embraced their differences, celebrated Christmas, Easter and Ramadan alike and cared for one another. Two hundred years ago, one of the owners of the house, Ahmet Aga, proved that such care did indeed exist. He used a clay pipe system to bring running water from miles away, not to keep just for his household. He placed an ancient marble sarcophagus in front of the house, turned it into a fountain and gave the priceless gift of water to his neighbours and passers-by. Therefore, the rooms and areas of the hotel were named after people who used to live in the house.

THE SUITES:

There are six non-smoking suites, all different from each other. Each has its own aura and interesting details. However, they all possess the same warm atmosphere, the calm, quietness and soft light found in every part of the hotel. They have been named after people who lived and worked in the house: KATINA, IRINI, ORHAN, MICHALIS, DENIZ, GÜLBIN. Each room has a story to tell and memories to share. They go back 700 years.
